What is table analysis variant in data archiving? what is use of Tcode TAANA_VF?

To analyse table for database archiving is prerequest of Database analysis and to do so we use Tcode TAANA. In TAANA after selecting a table we need to provide a Variant to be able to execute a table analysis (transaction TAANA) you always need an analysis variant. A variant belongs to exactly one table and describes which fields should be analyzed.

There are two kinds of analysis variants:

  • Analysis variants that you create in transaction TAANA_AV. The definitions of these variants are saved on the database and are available for future table analyses.
  • Ad hoc analysis variants, which you create when you schedule a table analysis (transaction TAANA). The definition of this type of variant is not saved on the database and is, therefore, only available for the table analysis you currently scheduled.

Activities related to Analysis Variants

  • Creating an Analysis Variant
  • Creating Virtual Fields
  • Displaying Analysis Variants
  • Deleting Analysis Variants
  • Creating an Analysis Variant

To perform a table analysis, you always need an analysis variant. This relates to only one table and describes which fields are to be analyzed. The system saves the analysis variant to the database; it can then be used for future table analyses.

With the transaction:

  1. TAANA_AV or alternatively
  2. Starting from the table analysis (transaction TAANA), choose Environment  Analysis Variant.
  3. to go to the change mode for analysis variants for the table analysis.
  4. Choose Edit New Entries and enter the name of the table for which you want to create an analysis variant.
  5. Enter the name of the analysis variant that is in your namespace.
  6. Choose Fields. The system offers you all table fields for selection.
  7. Select the relevant fields or create virtual fields if necessary. For more information, see Virtual Fields.
  8. Save the analysis variant.
